In 2013, Libro Credit Union (Libro) was formed by the merger of Libro Financial Group (Libro Financial) and United Communities Credit Union (United). Libro’s executive vice-president of Engagement needed to find a way to resolve the tension between these two legacy cultures that now coexisted within the company. Libro Financial had a principles-based culture tolerant of ambiguity, while United had a rules-based culture that took a more prescriptive approach. The executive vice-president wanted to move United employees to the Libro Financial way of operating as soon as possible and with the least resistance.
